Incêndios são devastadores, para os bens materiais e para a alma. O fogo é selvagem e devora. É imprevisível. Assustador.
Tenho que confessar que o incêndio em Notre-Dame de Paris me abalou muito mais do que o incêndio do Museu Nacional, no Rio de Janeiro. Explico. Sabia muito pouco do Museu e nunca estive lá. Já com a Catedral tenho uma ligação maior. A primeira visita foi em 1977 e depois disso, muitas outras vieram, já que por quase 20 anos acompanhei grupos à Europa e estive nela muitas vezes.
Sou apaixonada pelas gárgulas, pela construção gótica, pela imponência das torres, a força e delicadeza das “aranhas” que seguravam a construção.
Mas nós, turistas, somos implacáveis, insaciáveis. Queremos ver mais, aprender mais, curtir mais, aproveitar mais.
Se você não teve a oportunidade de visitar Notre-Dame de Paris, infelizmente vai ter que esperar um bom tempo. Talvez seja hora de aproveitar e conhecer outras igrejas góticas da cidade ou do país. Ou mesmo a mais incrível de todas, a Catedral de Colônia, na Alemanha.
Mas voltando a Paris… Visite a Igreja de Saint-Eustache, próxima a Les Halles. Dê maior atenção à Sainte-Chapelle, bem perto de Notre-Dame. Ou ainda aquela que na minha opinião é a mais bonita igreja de Paris, Saint-Étienne-du-Mont, atrás do Panteón; uma das poucas igrejas “brancas” e a única em Paris que conservou o transepto.
Se tiver mais tempo, aproveite a visita à França e tire um dia para, além de conhecer mais uma cidade, visitar uma belíssima catedral gótica. As opções são muitas: Chartres (a pouco mais de uma hora de trem, saindo da gare Montparnasse); Reims (cerca de uma hora, saind da Gare de l’Est); ou um pouco mais distante, mas magnífica, Notre-Dame de Strasbourg (quase 3 horas de TGV, saindo da Gare de l’Est). Mas há ainda muitas delas espalhadas pelo país: Troyes, Nîmes, Amiens, Tours, Toulouse, Le Mans?, Bordeaux…
Nenhuma delas substitui o esplendor de Notre-Dame de Paris. Nenhuma delas tem ou terá a relevância de Notre-Dame de Paris. Mas todas elas vão te dar uma ideia da grandiosidade das construções góticas, suas atmosferas místicas, a penúmbra.
E nenhuma, nenhuma em qualquer lugar desse mundo tuo terá gárgulas tão lindamente amedrontadoras e apaixonantes como as de Notre-Dame.

More Than A Memory
Fires are devastating, for material goods and for the soul. The fire is wild and devouring. It’s unpredictable. Spooky.
I must confess that the fire in Notre-Dame de Paris struck me much more than the fire of the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro. I explain. I knew very little about the Museum and had never been there. With the Cathedral, I have a greater connection. The first visit was in 1977 and after that, many others came, since for almost 20 years I accompanied groups to Europe and I’ve been there many times.
I am in love with the gargoyles, the Gothic construction, the towering grandeur, the strength and delicacy of the “spiders” who held the building.
But we, tourists, are ruthless, insatiable. We want to see more, learn more, enjoy more and more.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit Notre-Dame de Paris, unfortunately, you’ll have to wait quite a while. Maybe it’s time to take advantage of and visit other Gothic churches in the city or in France. Or even the most incredible of all, the Cologne Cathedral in Germany.
But returning to Paris … Visit the Church of Saint-Eustache, near Les Halles. Pay close attention to Sainte-Chapelle, very close to Notre-Dame. Or the one that in my opinion is the most beautiful church in Paris, Saint-Étienne-du-Mont, behind the Pantheon; one of the few “white” churches and the only one in Paris that preserved the transept.
If you have more time, enjoy the visit to France and take a day to visit another city and its beautiful Gothic cathedral. There are many options: Chartres (just over an hour by train, leaving from Montparnasse); Reims (about an hour, leaving from Gare de l’Est); or a little more distant, but magnificent, Notre-Dame de Strasbourg (almost 3 hours by TGV, leaving from Gare de l’Est). But there are still many of them throughout the country: Troyes, Nîmes, Amiens, Tours, Toulouse, Le Mans, Bordeaux …
None of them replace the splendor of Notre-Dame de Paris. None of them has or will have the relevance of Notre-Dame de Paris. But all of them will give you an idea of ??the grandeur of Gothic buildings, their mystical atmospheres, the penumbra.
And none, none anywhere in this mundo tuo will have gargoyles as beautifully frightening and enthralling as those of Notre-Dame.
